We begin our festival with a talk by Sean Norris on the boat number 91 from Baltimore Boatyard, the Breda Helen. Sean’s talk will explore how the Breda Helen (and other boats) came to be built to include tracing the development of fisheries and its place in the community from the Foundation of the state up to the early 1970’s and the evolution of fishing methods and boats during that time.
Sean will speak about the service life of the Breda Helen including the fisheries, notable events and an outline of various refits completed and the changing times during her lifetime before closing on her final voyage to the Breakers Yard in Gent, Belgium in 2008.
